Gibson`s ex walked away from a potential $20 million settlement
It has been claimed Oksana Grigorieva wanted him to be evaluated to ensure he wouldn`t be a danger to their nine-month-old daughter Lucia when she was with him.
When the `Braveheart` actor refused, Oksana walked away from the deal.
A friend told RadarOnline.com: "Oksana felt Mel was dangerous. She wanted him to be in Lucia`s life, but she was worried about everyone`s safety."
In the wake of their split, the pair had worked out a preliminary agreement which would have given both Mel and Oksana 50 per cent custody of Lucia before Oksana pulled out of the deal.
In recent months a series of audio tapes have been released apparently containing recordings of Mel and Oksana`s vicious rows and allegedly of the actor assaulting the Russian singer.
It was revealed on 05.08.10 that Mel underwent a 10-day hypnotherapy session from top hypnotist Rick Collingwood to cope with the stress of the fall-out from the separation.
Rick said: "I gave him a few sessions to help him with the stress he is obviously experiencing at the moment.
"I must say that he is a far nicer person that what is being portrayed presently in the media. It will be interesting to see the results when all of the truths are revealed during the ongoing legal saga."
Mel, 54, is currently being investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services over allegations he assaulted the Russian singer and Lucia.
He is also being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff`s Department over domestic violence claims.
